Ecco una immagine di Saturno ripreso la notte del ferragosto scorso, intorno alle 23:38 locali, dall’isola di Vulcano (arcipelago isole Eolie) in condizioni sufficienti di seeing.
Non vi sono particolari visibili sulla superficie del pianeta, almeno non così eclatanti da essere visibili con un telescopio da 11″ di obiettivo e in queste condizioni di seeing.
La camera utilizzata è la ottimissima camera a colori ASI462MC accoppiata ad un ADC della Omegon e ad un moltiplicatore di focale Baader FFC (Flat Field Converter), il cui utilizzo mi ha permesso di ottenere un’immagine tutto sommato gradevole malgrado il calore perennemente presente tutta questa estate, sopra i cieli del sud Italia, con conseguente seeing non eccelso.
Sono distinguibili, quindi, solo la divisione di Cassini e le bande atmosferiche principali del pianeta, oltre alla leggera fase del globo sopra gli anelli (l’ombra nera sul bordo in alto a sx) nonché la zona polare nord con la sua forma esagonale – apprezzabile ma non perfettamente visibile – tipicamente caratteristica di Saturno.
Augurandomi che nei prox giorni il caldo africano lasci finalmente la Sicilia e il sud Europa intero, permettendoci così di godere ed ammirare i due pianeti giganti visibili durante queste calde notti estive.

Here is an image of Saturn taken on the night of last August 14th, around 23:38 local time, from the island of Vulcano (Aeolian archipelago) in sufficient seeing conditions.
There are no visible details on the surface of the planet, at least not so striking as to be visible with an 11″ and in these seeing conditions.
The camera used is the very good ASI462MC coupled to an Omegon ADC and a Baader FFC (Flat Field Converter) teleconverter, the use of which allowed me to obtain an overall pleasant image despite the perpetually present “heat”, all this summer, above the skies of southern Italy, resulting in not excellent seeing.
Therefore, only the Cassini division and the main atmospheric bands of the planet are appreciated, as well as the slight phase of the globe above the rings.
Hoping that in the next few days the African heat will finally leave Sicily and the whole of southern Europe, thus allowing us to enjoy and admire the two giant planets visible during these hot summer nights.
